Beauty in stages

When I see flowers, they make my heart lift up, they are calming and inspiring to me, the forms, colours and the scents...I love the beautiful hues at all of the stages of the flowering process, the petals and leaves often have such an unusual combination of colour as they fade away, I think this stage us just as beautiful and sometimes more interesting/inspiring than when they are in full bloom...

Rich colours of a red rose as it fades

I used my 'Raspberry Crush' texture from collection 2 to give a retro effect...

Such a variety of hues...all my fave pinks :)

One of my several works in progress...building up layers

I've managed to start painting again after quite a break...it feels good to get back into a creative rhythm again...it feels healthy to me...I'm working on heavy papers at the moment, stretching them before use, I like the effects and the vibrancy...I also feel freer working on paper, it's not as precious as a canvas, so I can experiment and work quickly, moving more freely without worrying 'this cost me £££'s, I'd better get it right'! I figure, the more I do, the better I'll get...hope so :)

As promised a short video of Izzy running in her pj's...in the snow!

I did manage to capture the pup in 'jamas running in the snow...just a couple of minutes of footage :)

Here's hoping that you have a creative and happy weekend, I look forward to seeing what you've been up to!

  2. I too find beauty in the fading flowers ... not just in the colors, but in the forms. It relates to how I have viewed life as I watched my parents fade and yet become more beautiful than I had ever viewed them ... There is a richness to the experienced life ...

    1. I think that if we are lucky, as we grow older, we become more attuned to life's rhythms...and they surely are very beautiful indeed :)

  6. Oh, the colors of these rose petals are gorgeous! So very beautiful in all stages of fading.
I love your paintings very much (the ones I have already seen on your blog), they have so much depth and peace in it.
I like painting too at the moment. This year I started an art journal where I can experiment with colors and techniques. It gives me so much joy, strength and a quiet mind even if everyday life is loud and overwhelming...
Izzy is absolutely adorable, she's so cute in her pj's. :) I always look forward to new pictures of her.
Have a very happy and creative weekend, too.
    Love, Alexandra

  11. Your pictures and painting are so beautiful Ruth. I love the colours so much.
I watched the video, I didn't realise I had the sound turned off. I was thinking, I bet she is laughing, giggling and saying things to Izzy exactly as I do when I watch my Pepsi run around in exactly the same way. Then your first commenter mentioned hearing you giggle! You & Izzy made my day x
