Hi there! Thank you all so much for your kind support for my new mixed media projects, it really means so much to me and has helped me to keep going and keep sharing ♥
My collection of mixed media art hearts 8"x 8" and cute little 5"x 5" canvas!
I've been experimenting with many different materials this week, some better than others...the materials are very expensive too, so I try to be careful with my choices of new ones...it's so much fun though and I can't stop making these heart canvas!! The larger top right canvas at the back in the picture above is a finished one (it has a better, richer quality to it because it's been sealed) the others are still not quite finished but are nearly there! I wanted to share them with you ♥
Why I love mixed media - anything goes!
The camera has been out on a couple of outings over the last few weeks, we had gorgeous weather, so visited some gardens (my favourite thing to do as you know!) I found myself looking at the flowers in a different way yet again, noticing this time the patterns, colours and forms...which is nothing new in itself but this time I had painting in mind...I used to take lots of pictures when I was a student, many years ago and I would find the patterns and colours from the things I photographed coming through into my art over the weeks/months that followed, not ever in a conscious way...but there they were...they'd clearly made an impression on me!
An ageing Coneflower, gorgeous colours! I added my texture 'Charm'
I was particularly taken with seed heads and the ageing coneflowers, like the one above, they looked like tattered watercolours, rich but also fading at the edges, the burgundy pinks looking rich and velvety and the deep browns complementing them perfectly...and you may notice, all week, most of the paintings I've been working on are all the same colours...
I do hope you all have a glorious weekend and get some creative time over the next week, I do so enjoy visiting to see! ♥

ReplyDeleteThe coneflower is just gorgeous! A beautiful edit!
Ruth, your colors are some of my favorites! The heart canvases are very impressive, esp. after that last shiny sealing coat. It will be interesting to see how the patterns, etc. that you're noticing in your photography work, filter into and influence your mixed media pieces.
ReplyDeleteHave a super weekend:)
Thank you Anna :)

ReplyDeleteRuth!!! LOVE those hearts! Beautiful. And the coneflower.....my coneflowers don't retain much of their color as they age. This is such a wonderful image.

oh my!! that is a remarkable photograph!! I love your heart pieces, too. I did 18 little 4by4 canvasses with hearts back in February. I loved the spontaneity of painting them and BEing loose. this inspires me to again consider what I might DO with them!! [they are sitting in a basket...]
ReplyDeletethe colour of the coneflower is exquisite!! it evokes the sweetness of aging and its depth, a thing we don't often "see" in that process.
Thank you Currie, perhaps you could sell your hearts? I'm sure they are beautiful :)
DeleteYour coneflower is exquisite, Ruth. The heart art is just beautiful too. Looks like you are really enjoying yourself! Thank you for sharing your works with Photo Art Friday.
ReplyDeleteOh my stars that flower piece is gorgeous. The detail is divine, the center of the flower has the look of a canvas painting and I just love the colors.

a different look of the coneflower. Nice to see it. :)
ReplyDeleteThe coneflower is really dazzling. I like your eye. And the heart canvases turned out really well.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous. The texture of the centre of that flower is almost like crochet or some kind of fabric. The texture at the bottom in the background is very beautiful. Great work!
